MK Dons added a hard-fought point to the push for promotion after a stalemate at Edgar Street.
Captain Keith Andrews came the closest to breaking the deadlock when his left-foot volley half way through the second half was brilliantly turned round the post by Bulls 'keeper Wayne Brown.
Despite a string of long throws in the second period from substitute Jude Stirling, the Dons were unable to break down Graham Turner's side, who ended a four game losing streak.
Hereford made just one change from the side that lost at Accrington last week, Alan Connell coming in for Phil Gulliver as Graham Turner switched to a 4-4-2 formation.
With Lloyd Dyer already missing with a groin problem, the last thing Dons manager Martin Allen needed was another injury, particularly to a player making his first appearance since the defeat at Peterborough. Jamie Smith's comeback lasted just 23 minutes resulting in Gareth Edds slotting into right back and Stirling coming on in midfield.
It was a nervy start from Bulls 'keeper Brown, whose first clearance was hammered straight into Clive Platt, the Dons striker unable to take advantage having been forced wide.
Neither side were able to find a final ball as a strong midfield battle raged, Hereford's Andy Williams coming the closest to troubling the scorers with a 25-yard effort which dipped just over.

As the clouds gathered over Edgar Street a wind similar to the one regularly seen on the Dons' own patch blew up, pinning Lee Harper's clearances inside his own half.
But the Dons dealt with it well and almost took the lead after Jon-Paul McGovern's shot was deflected over. Dean Lewington's resulting corner swung into the far post and Drissa Diallo's header was superbly cleared off the line by Luke Webb.
The Dons had shaded the half and had Izale McLeod's shot after a pass from Keith Andrews had more conviction, they may have been leading at the break.
The wind dropped after the break and Stirling took full advantage - hurling throw-ins into the Bulls area at every opportunity.
Danny Thomas drove in a low free kick that Harper did well to hang on to but the force remained with the Dons, mainly thanks to the arms of Stirling. One throw from the right fell the way of Andrews and the skipper's volley looked a certain goal before Brown clawed it out of the bottom corner.
Clear chances remained at a premium until Simon Travis made a break down the Bulls right, firing his cross low across the box but unable to find a team mate in the centre.
Leon Knight's introduction threatened to force an opening at times but Hereford's resilient defence held firm.
Honours even and another point to the total ahead of an important Easter period. Saturday sees the Dons entertain Grimsby before travelling to in-form Shrewsbury on Easter Monday.
