An extremely disappointing showing was met by a comprehensive 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Swans, who shot straight back to the top of the table.
But the ease in which the Swans were allowed to race into a three-goal lead early on, thanks to a hat-trick from debutant Leon Knight, will deeply concern Dons boss Danny Wilson.
He had made the one change from the side that lost 4-3 at Southampton in the FA Cup Third Round on Saturday, bringing in Mark Ricketts as replacement for the suspended Trent McClenahan.
Wind and heavy rain had battered South Wales all day prior to the game, and a fresh onslaught came along just prior to kick-off. And with Rugby Union also a regular fixture at the impressive Liberty Stadium, the pitch looked in a particularly poor state in central areas for such a new and shiny set-up.
GOAL: Swansea took the lead on five minutes. A poor attempted header from Paul Mitchell, pictured above right, saw a failed clearance from Craig Morgan fall at the feet of Leon Knight for a neat right-footed finish into the bottom corner of the goal.
Baker had to parry a powerful shot from Adebayo Akinfenwa from the edge of the box as there only looked one team who were up for the fight in the dreadful conditions early on.
Tom Williams left Chorley completely flat-footed on 11 minutes as he raced past down the left and clipped a cross which fell on top of the goal.
On 11 minutes a misfired corner from Lewington nearly turned into a chance as the wind swept it towards goal, Swans keeper Willy Gueret back-peddling to keep out the effort.
GOAL: But on 12 minutes it was 2-0 as Akinfenwa put a great ball through for Knight, who raced onto it and kept his composure to slot past Baker, who for some reason had stayed rooted to his line.
The Dons had been giving a sorry account of themselves in the opening stages of the game. But the most disappointing was the apparent lack of heart from the visiting players, who were second best to almost every challenge in the first 15 minutes.
A McLeod run at goal was easily stopped by Garry Monk on 20 minutes as the Dons desperately looked for their top scorer at every opportunity to create something from nothing.
Baker needed two attempts to hold onto a fairly tame 30-yard effort from Robinson on 22 minutes as the hosts continued to look for more goals.
Morgan somehow escaped a caution on 24 minutes as he looked to have felled Akinfenwa on the run, referee Mr Mathieson deciding against awarding a free-kick to the big striker.
GOAL: On 27 minutes it was 3-0 as the Dons continued to fall apart. Swansea were allowed plenty of time to spray the ball around, with a pass out to the left met by a great cross from Williams, Knight again found space in the box and nodded home from close range - completing his quick-fire hat-trick.
Gueret was out to make a good claim from Lewington's low cross at the other end on 28 minutes with Platt lurking for a header.
Baker had to palm away Robinson's corner on 33 minutes as the home side piled on the pressure.
And seconds later he had to be down to his left to keep out Leon Britton's shot from the edge of the box.
McLeod went down in a heap under a challenge from Kevin Austin on 34 minutes, limping off to be attended to on the touchline.

Danny Wilson had to do something at half-time, and he made a change, with Nicky Rizzo coming on for Leon Crooks.
McLeod raced onto a Nicky Rizzo pass on 48 minutes, and then dived under a challenge from Monk, Mr Mathieson waving away the subsequent appeal for a penalty.
Seconds later and he picked up a deserved yellow card for an elbow on Alan Tate.
Another perfectly weighted throughball from Akinfenwa found Leon Britton on the run down the right and he went in one-on-one, this time Baker coming out to make a decent save on 51 minutes.
Platt won a free-kick 20 yards out on 53 minutes, giving Rizzo a chance to shoot at goal. His left footer beat the Swans defensive wall, but keeper Gueret was down well to his right to beat the effort away. And from Rizzo's resulting corner, Platt got ahead of his marker only to knee the ball well over the bar.
Small, pictured above left, won the ball in midfield and progressed at goal before sending a low right footer which was dragged narrowly off-target on the hour mark.
Wilson made a second change on 64 minutes, replacing Ricketts with Stephen Quinn in a bid to inject some attacking threat to his side.
A powerful right footer from Rizzo brought out another good stop from Gueret as the Aussie continued to look the most dangerous player for the visitors.
Lewington was booked on 68 minutes for a late tackle on Britton.
Baker made a good stop to deny Akinfenwa's shot from a tight angle on 69 minutes.
And a final change from Wilson on 70 minutes saw Small leave the field to be replaced by Aaron Wilbraham.
A neat one-two between Rizzo and Quinn saw the former have another shot from distance saved at the near post by Gueret on 72 minutes.
And at the other end Robinson wasn't far away with a speculative effort which fell high and wide from 20 yards.
Akinfenwa left the field to generous applause on 73 minutes to be replaced by Paul Connor.
Chorley picked up a yellow card for a late tackle on Knight, who looked to be through on goal on 77 minutes. Robinson fired the resulting free-kick over the bar.
The Dons were awarded a penalty in confusing circumstances on 80 minutes. Rizzo's cross was fizzing across goal, but the referee had spotted an infringement from Tate on McLeod. Gueret then saved the spot-kick from McLeod, only for the referee to order the kick to be re-taken due to early movement from the Swans defence.
GOAL: At the second attempt, under a chorus of cat-calls from the home fans, McLeod sent Gueret the wrong way to give the home side a faint glimmer of hope.
Wilbraham had an effort at goal deflected wide on 85 minutes as the home side were finally put under something like pressure in the closing stages.
Platt had a header stopped by Gueret on 87 minutes and Lewington dragged an effort well high and wide in the 89th minute.
But the belated signs of life had come far too late to make more of a dent in the scoreline as the Dons went away with their fifth defeat out of their last six league games.
Full-time: Swansea City 3 MK Dons 1
