Mills scores v SwanseaMilton Keynes Dons crashed to a 3-1 defeat at home to a strong Swansea City side that soared to the top of the Coca-Cola League One table with a confident showing.
After falling behind early in the first half, the Dons fought their way back into the game and matched the South Wales side for a long spell, but had no match once the visitors re-took the lead. And with a win still missing from their results this season, the Dons were left rooted in the relegation zone.
The big pre-match team news came in the form of a return to action for Dons striker Izale McLeod, who had been missing for three weeks with a shoulder injury. After training on Monday, he was a surprise inclusion for the home side, Aaron Wilbraham dropped to the bench. And with Wade Small missing after picking up a hamstring injury in the 1-0 defeat at Brentford on Saturday, Malvin Kamara was drafted in for his first start of the season.
Swansea came to MK in confident mood after a 7-1 mauling of Bristol City on Saturday.
After a lively opening from both sides McLeod had a run down the left on two minutes, stopping a ball from Lewington from going into touch and sending a low cross which neither Clive Platt or Trent McClenahan could get a hold of on the right. And seconds later Pablo Mills made a timely interception to rob Lee Trundle of possession as he attempted to go through on goal.
After robbing Morgan of possession on nine minutes Trundle was then felled from behind by Mills to win a free-kick 20 yards out. Andy Robinson tried his luck with a right-footed curler which beat the defensive wall and was not far away from the top left hand corner of the goal with Baker beaten.
And after a mazy run from Sam Ricketts which took him past two half-hearted challenges on the edge of the penalty area, the ball was prodded into the path of Robinson on the edge of the box which he blasted inches wide of the upright.
Swansea were beginning to dominate, with Trundle and Paul Connor linking up particularly well down the right channel.
GOAL: They took the lead on 16 minutes when a ball through from skipper Roberto Martinez found Trundle, who with more than a hint of offside, went in on goal and despatched a clinical finish past Baker from eight yards out.
There was a distinct lack of creativity from the Dons as the half wore on, with long punts up-field looking easy for Swansea to cope with and too many backward or square passes from the middle of midfield.
A dangerous looking low cross from Robinson saw Morgan scuttling back to hook clear of the danger area on 26 minutes as the visitors looked to stretch their lead.
Malvin Kamara committed the cardinal sin of dwelling on the ball too long on the edge of the box, was robbed of possession and from the resulting cross Paul Connor sent in a brilliant header which was met by an equally impressive diving save to his left on 30 minutes.
At the other end Izzy Iriekpen was strong under pressure from Platt to a ball over the top as Swansea continued to boss the game in all areas.
The crowd were also growing increasingly frustrated at the refereeing of Mike Dean, who could certainly not be described as a 'homer' after a constant stream of free-kicks for the visitors in the first half.
A corner which broke to Morgan on the right provided the Dons first real chance when his ball back into the box on 34 minutes found Platt, whose first time header forced Swans keeper Willy Gueret down to his right to turn wide.
GOAL: And from the resulting corner, this time from McClenahan, Mills got in the thick of it with his head to nod home from close range, his first goal in his home debut for the club.
Just seconds later and it was so nearly 2-1 to the Dons when McKoy was released down the right and he dinked a ball in for McLeod, who turned the ball at goal but wrongfooted keeper Gueret managed somehow to turn his body back towards the ball and beat clear with a brilliant stop.
McLeod fashioned himself a chance on 40 minutes when he sped down the left channel, picked up the ball on the touchline, weaved his magic to get past Iriekpen, cut inside but fell off balance as he tried to smack in his right footer which flew well high and wide of the mark.
At that stage of the game, the nature of the action had completely turned on its head, with Swansea's early dominance giving way to a strong spell for the home side.
A free-kick won on the edge of the box presented a good opportunity for the Dons on 43 minutes. But Lewington curled it well high of the target with a disappointing effort.

McKoy v SwanseaThe first chance of the half came when Iriekpen shoved Platt off the ball on the edge of the area, but once again, a free-kick in a very dangerous position was taken too quickly by McLeod, didn't beat the defensive wall and bounced clear of the danger area.
Baker was called upon with a brilliant save at the feet of Trundle on 52 minutes, but the effort would have been ruled out anyway as the striker was flagged for offside.
Another free kick for the Dons in the attacking third saw McLeod released down the right and his angled drive was beaten clear by Gueret, but only into the path of McKoy on the edge of the box, and he lost control at the vital moment, when a shot on goal would probably have found the back of the net.
A lofted clearance kick nearly found Platt on 56 minutes, and with Gueret stranded in no-mans land, a punt over his head would have put the Dons ahead, but the combination of Alan Tate and Iriekpen muscled him off the ball.
Trundle managed to con the referee into giving him a free-kick - and Mills a yellow card - on 57 minutes as he went down with the lightest of touches as the pair chased for a throughball.
The wily striker then tried his luck with a left footer from the dead ball, which didn't trouble Baker on its way over the crossbar.
Mills made a tremendous tackle on 60 minutes, sprinting down the touchline to get a perfectly timed effort in on the lively Connor, winning possession near the corner flag.
The first change of the evening came on 64 minutes, Lewington replaced by Nicky Rizzo.
Iriekpen received a yellow card for a late tackle on McLeod on 65 minutes as the Dons continued to do much of the attacking in the second period. But Swansea always looked dangerous on the break, especially with the pace and skill of Connor and Trundle on the long balls.
The Dons nearly took the lead on 67 minutes when McKoy broke down the left flank onto a Baker throw out, knocked the ball out for Rizzo to swing over a cross that found Kamara, but the wingman's effort was just off target with Gueret beaten.
Another change on 68 minutes saw McLeod taken off and replaced by Aaron Wilbraham.
A misjudged header by Crooks on 71 minutes gifted possession to Connor, who nearly made the youngster pay with an angled drive from 20 yards which fizzed inches wide of the target.
GOAL: And seconds later Swansea re-took the lead, as the Dons defence failed to get a tackle in on Trundle, he slotted a perfectly weighted pass for Robinson, who weaved his way around Baker to tap home.
A final change from Wilson came on 73 minutes, Paul Mitchell sacrificed to make way for the invention of Gary Smith.
GOAL: On 76 minutes Swansea had the points signed, sealed and delivered. Again it was Trundle involved as he picked the ball up in the middle of the field, progressed 10 yards unchallenged and slipped a pass right for Robinson, who drilled a low angled drive which Baker could not keep out.
The Dons did not give up, with Smith looking lively and Rizzo showing plenty of industry on the flanks. But it was obvious that the third goal had knocked much of the resolve out of the hosts.
Morgan tried his luck with a rising 30 yarder, but it was never going to trouble Gueret from that distance and he had no trouble in watching it clear the crossbar.
Platt had a left footed effort deflected wide by Tate on 83 minutes as the Dons desperately looked for a goal which might set up a tight finish.
Swansea made their first change on 85 minutes with Kevin McLeod replaced by Ijah Anderson.
The game drifted out in the closing stages, Swansea making another change on 89 minutes to take off Trundle and throw on Lee Thorpe.
