nr cele 180 deepNew  manager Danny Wilson got off to the best possible start as goals from Nicky Rizzo and two from Wade Small gave the MK Dons a vital 3-0 win over Wrexham. The performance was solid throughout, new midfield loan signing Paul Mitchell made an impressive debut, and for once the luck favoured the home team as every Wrexham chance went by the wayside.

The Dons got off to the best possible start when Rizzo opened the scoring on just six minutes, latching on to neat work from the impressive Allan Smart and Gary Smith to hit a superb dipping 25-yarder that gave veteran Wrexham keeper Andy Dibble no chance.

Smith then went close himself soon after with a long range effort that sailed just over, and with Mitchell quickly settling into the midfield anchor role, the Dons were well worth their early advantage.

The visitors got back into things around the half-hour mark when first Dennis Lawrence and then Juan Ugarte both blasted wide presentable opportunities, but before Wade Small had a good chance well saved by Dibble just before the break both Izale McLeod and Lawrence had gone into the referee's notebook,McLeod for simulation and Lawrence for pulling back the Dons striker when he was through on goal. Whether both decisions were the right ones was a matter of some debate.

Small made amends soon after the second half started when he increased the Dons advantage, following up to net from close range after his initial shot had been blocked. Two goals at the start of either half was a welcome change indeed.

Alex Tapp replaced Smith after 50 minutes and two minutes later Wrexham should have pulled a goal back when Chris Llewellyn hit the bar from close range.

pm v wrexThat was a sign that this was going to be the Dons day, and when a ten man move at least was rounded off by Small on 84 minutes the three points were signed, sealed and delivered.

Manager Wilson then put on Mark Williams to replace Smart, who had his best game for the club by far, and with Shola Oyedele also shoring things up after replacing McLeod, and going close to scoring himself with a fierce 20-yarder that was well parried by Dibble, the Dons ran out worthy winners and left the pitch to thunderous appause from the ecstatic home supporters.

It was a great start for Danny Wilson, and his new loan signing Mitchell must have been close to get the man of the match award. All roads now lead to Stockport next Saturday.
