ROBBY HAILS IMPORTANT WIN
Dons manager Roberto Di Matteo was a happy man after seeing his side register their first League 1 points with a 1-0 win over local rivals Northampton.
Aaron Wilbraham's second-half header from a Peter Leven corner gave the Dons boss his second win in five days, as the men from stadiummk got their League 1 challenge rolling.
And Di Matteo was full of praise for his players after a tight afternoon that always looked likely to be settled by one goal.
He said: "It's been very tough today, but I enjoyed it. The team did very well, I'm really pleased and I've told them to take confidence from it and I hope we can go on and achieve big things.
"We now have two clean sheets in two games. That's very important for the team because they know, once we go ahead, it's very difficult for the opposition to score against us.
"It's a very good group of players, I'm very pleased with everyone and, as I said in the beginning, I'd like to build on this team."
Wilbraham's strike was a scrappy affair, the striker just forcing his header over the line on 66 minutes despite a desperate defensive effort.
And goalkeeper Willy Gueret ensured there was no comeback from the Cobblers - saving heroically from Adebayo Akinfenwa in injury time.
Di Matteo added: "From where I was standing I couldn't really see but the linesman was standing on the line so he had a much better view.
"They did have a couple of chances but you always have an opposition playing against you. I think Willy saved the result for us in the last minute."
More reaction to come from the Dons manager on Dons World.
