BIG AWARDS FOR MK SCHOOLS

Posted on: Mon 17 May 2010

Milton Keynes schools came away with a host of big prizes from the recent Show Racism the Red Card awards at Wembley Stadium.

The Awards celebrate the best pieces of work from schools all over England that show youngsters' understanding of how racism and how it should be eliminated.

Five MK-based schools had national winners, but it was Year 10 at Oakgrove who scooped the event's blue ribbon honour as the country's overall winner.

Olivia Charles of Green Park School; Fouzia Issaka form New Chapter Primary School; Ollie Coleman and Dominic Kent from Wavendon Gate School; Kayleigh Lynn Ovenden from Shenley Brooke End School; and Lucy Wyatt, Taylor Courtice, Bethany Clark, Nathan Williams, Alice Walsham and Ed McCarron from Oakgrove School were all presented with their awards by a host of past and present professional footballers including Olivier Bernard, Leroy Rosenior, Dave Bassett, Dean Gordon, Chris Holland and our very own Paul Mitchell.

Fouzia Issaka also received a special award from Street Football. She will be the England mascot for a home game at Wembley in the new season.

These awards winners reflect the extremely high standard of entry from MK and the consistent delivery of positive anti racism education. The work is under taken in Milton Keynes by a partnership between MK Dons SET, MK Council Sports Development, MK Youth Service and MKDSA. This year the MK programme of school assemblies, workshops, launch and parade events has been funded by MK Council Prevent Funding.

Local and national organisers are very proud of this work and the annual high standard of entry which was given a special mention of recognition during the ceremony of the anti racism work delivered by this partnership annually in Milton Keynes.

Our congratulations go to all our winners and special thanks to the schools, their staff, and our partners and volunteers for their support and contribution to another outstanding set of achievements in this competition.
