DONS LAUNCH ARMED FORCES DAY

Posted on: Wed 25 Nov 2009

MK Dons v Yeovil Town

MK Dons will host a special Armed Forces Day in support of Help for Heroes on Saturday 5th December, for the League 1 clash with Yeovil Town at stadiummk.

The event will be part of Dons midfielder Peter Leven's season-long challenge to raise money for the Football League's Official 2009/10 Charity Partner.

Early in the campaign, proud Brit Peter vowed to donate £5 to Help for Heroes for every goal the Dons scored in all competitions this season and urged others to do the same through his own online donation page for the charity.

In just a few short weeks, Peter's page has already accumulated nearly £2,000 in donations, with team-mates, sponsors, fans and fellow professionals from around the divisions stepping forward to support the former Rangers and Kilmarnock player.

Help for Heroes

And the Dons are now ready to help take things up a gear with an event that will celebrate the bravery of the men and women in Britain's Armed Forces.

The MK Dons Armed Forces Day in support of Help for Heroes will see the club invite a host of special guests including personnel from local military bases, members of local branches of the Royal British Legion, ex-servicemen's clubs and RAFA and Naval clubs.

The club will also be putting on special ticket bundles for all current and ex-servicemen and their families for what should be a fantastic day at stadiummk. These are now available from the above organisations.

Peter Leven said: "I'll consider it an honour to play in front of members of our Armed Forces. They're heroes to every single one of us for the service they have given to our country.

"As well as celebrating that on the day, it's a great chance for us to support Help for Heroes. Everyone at the club has already been supportive of my challenge, but to dedicate a home game to backing the cause is a fantastic gesture.

"It would be great to see a big crowd here on the day, it's what our Armed Forces deserve and I'm sure Milton Keynes will be right behind us."

As well as bucket collections around the ground on the day, all proceeds from which will go through Peter's charity page, supporters will be offered the chance to donate directly to Peter's Just Giving page at the club's Playing for Success Centre.

The players will also be showing their support by sporting Help for Heroes t-shirts and wristbands during the warm-up and honouring some of the current and ex-servicemen attending on the day prior to kick-off.

It should be a memorable afternoon at the home of football in Milton Keynes, and you can be part of it by purchasing your tickets now at the MK Dons Online Ticket Service.
