Mike Dove's Youth Team produced a stunning final result of pre-season on Saturday as they hammered Barnet 7-1.

Missing all their second-year apprentices due to Saturday's first team friendly against Liverpool, Mike's youngsters took to the Bees' new Hive Training Centre for what was effectively an Under-17 game and produced a masterful performance.

First-year apprentices Joel Gyasi (2), Jordan Ivey-Ward, Ben Walster and Fuad Ahmed were all on target, while Under-16s Lynton Goss and Jevani Brown also got in on the rout.

"I was very pleased with them," Mike said. "Coupled with the good feedback we had from those involved in the Liverpool game, it was the perfect week to finish pre-season on.

"We play Bolton in our first Premier Academy League game on Saturday, which will be a new challenge for all of us, so we'll see how we cope with that now."

Mike's side started ominously in Edgware, Brown and Stefan Powell combining to set-up Gyasi for the opener on 14 minutes. Within a further seven they were effectively home and hosed.

First Goss turned in Ahmed's cross from the right to double the advantage before Ivey-Ward, a powerful presence in central defence, rose to head home Powell's corner on 19. Barnet were reeling and, by the time Brown turned in another Ahmed cross two minutes later, the scoreline looked certain to get ugly.

"We were a little complacent after scoring the fourth, which I wasn't happy with," Mike said. "I told them to enjoy having the ball, to keep doing the things that had got us into such a strong position in the first place and to go on and get more."

The Dons did just that on 67 minutes as a training ground corner came off perfectly - Powell finding Walster to rifle home from 20 yards and, seven minutes later, Ahmed skipped through and rounded the 'keeper for the goal his performance deserved.

Barnet managed to pull a consolation back after a neat move through midfield eight minutes from time.

But the Dons would have the final say as Gyasi, opener of the floodgates early-on, duly rounded matters off from Connor Vincent's pass.

"It was pleasing to see Joel and Fuad among the goals," Mike said. "I was also very pleased with Jordan and Ben, who came to the fore in defence in the absence of Harry Milton and George Williams.

"It's a nice way to finish the pre-season schedule and it gives us plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks."

Dons (4-3-3): Bragg; Spence, Ivey-Ward (c), Walster, Trialist (Grant 46); M. Ahmed (Conning 63), Gyasi, S. Powell; F. Ahmed, Brown (Vincent 58), Goss.
