MK DONS U18s 1 READING U18s 0
Tue 28 Feb 2006
Mike Dove's side recorded a good 1-0 win at home to the Royals thanks to a late winner from Stefan Koffi.
On a windy and bitterly cold morning, both sides struggled to get to grips with the conditions early on.
Reading had their moments in the first half, firing over from a good position on 15 minutes, while at the other end Tom Battams was unlucky not to get a penalty with a shot which seemed to have struck a Royals defender on the hand.
On 30 minutes Adam Kent did well to get a clearance on a goalbound effort, and five minutes later Sam Baldock brought out a good stop from the keeper.
Joe Howe was not far away with an effort which fell the wrong side of the post just before the interval as the sides went in level.
The Dons made a good start against the wind after the break, Lewis Trimmer and Sam Baldock again causing problems.
Jamie England shot wide on 65 minutes and Battams flashed a cross that no Dons player could get on the end of.
The game began to get stretched in the latter stages, and a good ball from Ross Morley into the path of England produced a good chance, but again England could not find the target.
With the match heading for stalemate, the Dons snatched the winner in the 88th minute. Ted Day cut inside from the touchline and pulled the ball back for substitute Koffi to fire home.
Team: Webb, Howe, Kent, Nash, Collins, Battams, Day, Morley, England, Baldock, Trimmer (Koffi). Not used: Flood, Kelly, Thorne.
