MK DONS 1 STEVENAGE BOROUGH 0
MK Dons made further progress in the FA Youth Cup as they held off the strong challenge of Stevenage Borough in a 1-0 win at the National Hockey Stadium.
On a freezing cold evening in MK, the Dons enjoyed the better of the first half, but had to survive plenty of pressure in the second period as Stevenage threw the kitchen sink at the hosts.
Stevenage had a chance within 15 seconds when Chris Sullivan won the ball on the right, cut inside but was thwarted by a brilliant tackle from Sam Page.
The Dons hit back with a spell of sustained pressure and had a great chance of their own when Ross Morley whipped in a free-kick from the right, finding Sam Page unmarked at the back post, but his header flew across the face of goal.
Webb was out to make a brave save at the feet of Sullivan on 17 minutes as the game continued to ebb and flow in both directions.
Ross Morley sprayed a ball out to Dean Lovegrove on the left after 20 minutes, who drove at goal and smacked a right footer which flew into the side-netting.
Sam Baldock did well to get onto a long ball ahead of his marker and the keeper, but his lofted shot from a very tight angle dropped over the crossbar on 31 minutes. And seconds later Ted Day had the keeper beaten with a lobbed effort, but again slightly misjudged the height as it again cleared the goal by a matter of inches.
Much of the game was being played in the Stevenage half, but despite enjoying the majority of possession and advantage the Dons could not take control of the game.
That changed on 40 minutes when Stevenage failed to deal with a routine ball into the box, it broke to Baldock, pictured right, who dispatched his close range shot past Nick Liversedge in the Stevenage goal.
Webb made a good stop to deny Ben Darwin on 43 minutes as the visitors finished the period in the ascendancy but behind in the game.

Joe Howe cleared an effort off the goal-line from Adam Lamacraft on 50 minutes as Borough tried to snatch an early leveller in the second half.
The Dons went close to a second when Page met a corner from Jamie England, pictured right, with a header which flew just wide on 56 minutes.
The game turned quite nasty midway through the half, with some tasty tackles flying in. And as consequence, Dons midfielder Ted Day was red carded for a two-footed challenge on 69 minutes.
Stevenage missed a glorious chance to level on 72 minutes when they broke with pace down the right channel and Sullivan sent a low cross into the path of Matthew Batt, and with the keeper stranded, the winger somehow contrived to put his shot wide of the post instead of into the gaping open goal.
Webb made a good diving save to his left to keep out Ben Darwin's volley on 74 minutes as the visitors continued to look the brighter side, using the extra man to their advantage by playing out to the flanks.
But their frustration grew in the closing stages as the Dons showed some tremendous fighting spirit with some terrific defending against the Stevenage onslaught.
