Under 18s manager Mike Dove said he was "chuffed to bits" with his team after they turned over league-leaders Aston Villa with a 2-1 win at Woughton on Saturday.

Goals from Sam Baldock and Liam Kelly guided the young Dons to their second win of the season and ended Villa's run of six consecutive wins.

And the result was made all the more satisfying with the Dons fielding three Under 16 players, including a full Under 18 debut for 15-year-old Josh Cryan.

Cryan came in as a late replacement for left-back Adam Chicksen, another Under 16 player, who was restriced by illness to a place on the bench.

Mike said: "The boys deserved everything they got on Saturday, I was really pleased with them.

"Our problem in recent weeks has been the first 10 minutes of games but we talked about it in the days building up to game and made sure we were on it from the first whistle.

"We went at them from the start in the same way teams have been coming at us. There were so many positives and we created plenty of chances.

"The one disappointment was that we didn't make more of the chances we created but, knowing they would come at us again second half, we had to be right on our toes again.

"We got in front with a typical Sam Baldock type goal - a poacher's finish - but even when they got an equaliser the boys sorted it out between them and got on with things.

"They kept playing and they got their reward. Liam showed good attitude to shoot from distance and it was a great goal.

"We came off the pitch bloodied and bruised when things got a bit heated and tackles started to go in but they kept their composure and closed the game out well.

"It was a strong, competitive game and we managed to come out with a result."
