Match Report by Mark Cockram

Sam Baldock and Liam Kelly were MK Dons Under 18s heroes as Mike Dove's determined, young side beat in-form Aston Villa.

After some performances that perhaps hadn't been rewarded with results in recent weeks, the young Dons recorded their second win of the season against a Villa side that came into the game on the back of a six-game winning streak.

The Dons started in excellent fashion when Stephane Koffi forced the Villa goalkeeper to produce a good save down to his left hand post in the 5th minute.

With the Dons in control of the game in the opening quarter of an hour their next decent chance came when Mustapha Carayol made a great run down the left wing then whipped in a cross to Koffi, who forced the Villa keeper into another decent save down to his left hand post.

Villa's first clear cut opportunity didn't come until the 37th minute when Villa's front two played a neat one-two, but Dons goalkeeper Laurie Walker rushed out closing the angle to force Villa's striker to hit his shot straight at him.

In the last moments of the half Villa broke free but a superb tackle by Oliver Thorne stopped a certain shooting chance.

Dons got themselves in front with the first chance of the second half thanks to some excellent work from Koffi.

The Ivory Coast-born striker turned Villa's left-back superbly halfway inside the visitor's half before setting off on a pacy run into the box. His shot was spilled by Villa 'keeper David Bevan and quickly pounced on by Baldock who rushed in and forced his second goal in three games into the bottom right hand corner.

After the goal the whole game came to life with both teams playing some really good football but the Dons lead lasted just four minutes. A ball wasn't cleared from a corner and it landed at the feet of Aston Villa midfielder Daniel Bradley who saw Walker off his line and chipped the Dons' stopper with a cheeky lob.

With the Dons' great team spirit, they refused to drop their heads and kept battling with some solid defending and some smooth, crisp, passing.

They opened Villa up again on 70 minutes when Kelly found Daniel Powell with a long ball forward, but the striker just put his shot past the far right hand post.

Dons kept working to get that second goal they desperately craved and it came in the 78th minute when Kelly got the ball just inside the box and then curled his effort home with his right foot.

With 10 minutes to go the game became frantic with Aston Villa trying to get back into the game and they thought they had when Villa Kofi Poyser had side-footed into the net.

But the ball had gone out of play before the cross came in, cutting Villa's celebrations short to the home side's relief.

With five minutes stoppage time allocated, Villa threw bodies forward to try and get an equalising goal, but the Dons defended with heart and determination to seal a deserved three points.
