Yankey enjoyed MK experience

3 June 2014

Arsenal and England Ladies forward Rachel Yankey says she enjoyed her first stadiummk experience last weekend.

The 36-year-old helped the Gunners to a 2-0 victory over Everton at the home of the Dons last Sunday, which saw Shelley Kerr’s side lift their 13th FA Women’s Cup in front of 15,098 spectators.

“It was wicked, the stadium was lovely so it was a good day,” said Yankey, who also featured in the England Ladies side that beat Italy at the National Hockey Stadium back in 2005.

“With the Everton youth team playing before and obviously Everton playing in the final we thought they’d have the majority of the fans but the Arsenal supporters definitely turned out for us.

She continued: “We felt really confident. I know people didn’t believe in us and some doubted us but, as a team, we’ve felt confident all season but it just hasn’t gone our way. We’ve not been down on ourselves, we just needed to pick ourselves up and improve on one or two things.

“We played well and although we could have done better, we just wanted to make sure we kept a clean-sheet, which we did and we wanted to make sure we scored, which we did and we win the Cup, so it’s good.”
