Will Grigg’s 10th goal of the season helped the Dons fight back from 2-0 down to earn a point at Crawley Town - a result the striker believes was merited.
Grigg headed home a cross from Ben Reeves to reduce the deficit with 15 minutes to play before teenager Dele Alli converted deep into stoppage time to secure the draw which moved Karl Robinson's side up to third in the Sky bet League 1.
“We wanted the three points before the game but, in the circumstances, we’ll take a point,” the 23-year-old told Dons Player after the match. “It was a tough game with a tough atmosphere so it was nice to get the point in the end.
“They got the first goal and after that just went with two banks of four and completely shut us off. We’ve tried to get the ball wide and get balls into the box and to be fair to them, they’ve defended well.
“In the end we’ve got what we deserved and scoring in the last minute is great for everyone, especially the fans.”
Crawley had to play the majority of the contest with striker Matt Harrold deputising in goal after stopper Brian Jensen was injured late in the first-half with no replacement keeper on the bench.
And while Grigg admits the side didn’t test Harrold as much as they would have liked, he insists the situation was harder than it may have appeared to those on the outside.
“We haven’t got the amount of shots on target that we’d have wanted with an outfield player in goal but, it’s similar to playing against 10 men, it’s not as easy as some people think.”
The Dons have made a habit of coming from behind this season, with victories over Swindon Town, Fleetwood Town and Gillingham all springing to mind – the latter of which also saw the men from MK1 overturn a two-goal deficit.
“It shows we’ve got a good mentality,” Grigg added. “Obviously conceding after the break wasn’t nice but a lot of teams would have crumbled. We’ve dug in there and it’s really important we continue to stick together.”
The Dons will be in search of their first win of 2015 when they take on Sheffield United in Milton Keynes this weekend and Grigg hopes he and his teammates can take the confidence gained from the late goal at Crawley and use it to their advantage on Saturday.
“It will be nice to get back to stadiummk and hopefully it will be a good game and we can get back to winning ways. The last two results at home have been disappointing so we’ll be looking to put things right.”
