Tom signs new deal

Speaking to mkdons.com, Dons manager Karl Robinson said: “Tom is a good, young player who we feel can still improve. He has also been brought up playing the MK Dons way having graduated from the Academy.

“He’s a great lad, he works tremendously hard on the training ground and next season is an opportunity for him to get into the team. It’s a make or break season for him.”

Born in Hammersmith, Flanagan signed his first professional deal with the Football Club in August 2010 having impressed as a Head Apprentice in the Dons’ Under-18s side.

Flanagan, who made his senior debut as a second-year scholar, featured 25 times during the 2011/12 season and contributed three goals as Robinson’s side reached the Sky Bet League 1 play-offs for a second successive year.

The 6ft 2in defender spent time on loan with Gillingham and Barnet last season, helping the former establish a lead at the top of the Sky Bet League 2 table which they wouldn’t surrender. He also earned his first call-up to the Northern Ireland Under-21 side in November 2012.

And while Flanagan has been limited to just six appearances this campaign, he remains eager to impress in the coming months. He told mkdons.com: “I’m pleased to get it all done and I’m just looking forward to the next year.

“I’ve made it known to the manager and everyone that I’ve wanted to play more games but it just hasn’t worked out so far. Hopefully, when I get my chance again I can take it.”
