Spence relishing Orient return

16 October 2014

Jordan Spence is eagerly anticipating his return to the club where he made his senior debut on Saturday.

The Dons right-back featured 21 times for the Leyton Orient whilst on loan from West Ham United during the 2008/09 season, and even played under the East London side’s current caretaker boss Kevin Nugent during his first spell as temporary manager in January 2009.

“I’m looking forward to going back there,” Spence told the media earlier this week. “I was on loan there when I was 18 and played 20 or so games, so I know the club well. There have been tons of changes since then but Kevin Nugent was the one took me back there for a second spell.

“They were very good last year and were probably unlucky not to win promotion. We know they’ll be organised and dangerous, they’ve got threats all over the pitch.

“Everyone knows what we’ll bring to the party and hopefully that will be enough to help us get the result.”

Spence, who joined the Dons on a permanent basis in August, played predominantly at centre-back whilst on loan at stadiummk last season but is expected to line up on the right side of defence on Saturday – a position he enjoys playing in.

“Wherever I’m asked to play, I’ll play but I do like playing at full-back. I like having the ball at my feet and in this team, you get that whether you’re playing centre-half or full-back, but I enjoy the one versus one battles that come with playing full-back.

“Obviously for large parts of last season I played at centre-back and I enjoy that too, but before I came here I hadn’t played centre-half consistently in almost two years.”

Saturday will provide Spence and the Dons with a chance to maintain their strong start to the season and close the gap on Peterborough United in second place, however the 24-year-old insists he isn’t one to study the league table at this early stage.

“I can’t speak for the others but I don’t tend to look at the league table at this time of year, it’s all about the next game for me,” he added. “Our ambitions have been discussed internally and we all know what we’d like to achieve.”

Tickets for the clash with Leyton Orient will be available to buy from the Box Office until 5pm on Friday. Tickets will be on sale at Matchroom Stadium but will be subject to a price increase.
