Spence: Dons showed character

20 August 2015

Jordan Spence says the team showed resilience to bounce back from their first competitive defeat in 14 games with a victory at stadiummk.

The Dons, who were beaten for the first time since March last weekend, responded by securing their second victory of the 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship campaign on Tuesday - a 1-0 triumph over Bolton Wanderers.

“It was a good evening,” Spence told the media afterwards. “We prided ourselves on how well we bounced back last year so it was a big win for us.

“We had a sustained bit of pressure during the period in which we scored and it was nice to capitalise on that and then see it out.

“It was good to show that resilience that we’re going to need at times this year – we’ll have to draw upon it a lot more than we did last year. It’s nice when you work hard and get the fruits of your labour.”

Tuesday’s win was the Dons’ third in four games to start the new campaign and Spence believes the team’s high confidence is a reason behind their good early-season form.

“We finished on 92 points last year and you don’t get too many teams that get up with that much, so there is a reason why we are in the Championship.

“We believe in ourselves, we believe in the ethos and we believe we can take what we were applying in League 1 into this division.

“We’ve started to establish that but we’ve got a long way to go - it’s all about consistency now.”

The Dons travel to Reading's Madjeski Stadium on Saturday for their first ever clash with the Royals - tickets are priced from £25 for adults, £10 for 18-24 year-olds and £7 for under-17s, while season ticket holders can travel for just £9!
