Samir: Take points off top-half sides

5 November 2015

Samir Carruthers says the Dons want to start picking up points against sides in the top half of the Sky Bet Championship.

The men from MK1 travel to third-place Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, a side who have yet to lose this season and, up until Tuesday evening, sat top of the table.

Carruthers and co go into the game on the back of an important 1-0 victory over Charlton Athletic and the 22-year-old midfielder hopes the confidence gained from that triumph will help them come away from the Amex Stadium with a result.

“The way we played (against Charlton) will give us a huge confidence boost ahead of Brighton and hopefully we can get a result there,” he told MK Dons PlayerHD after Tuesday’s win at stadiummk.

“The confidence has always been high because of the way we’ve been playing. We’re playing teams off the park at times and that gives us belief that we are doing well.”

He continued: “It’s good that we’re beating these teams around us but we need to pick up points against the teams in the top half of the table as well. If we do that and beat the teams around us in the league then hopefully we’ll be safe come the end of the season.”

The win over Charlton in midweek was the Dons’ sixth success of the campaign in all competitions and Carruthers believes it was just rewards for an all-round strong team performance.

“It was a big performance from the whole team,” he added. “We got a clean-sheet so credit to the back four and Dave. The holding midfielders were brilliant too and everybody worked tirelessly throughout.”

“I enjoyed (playing out wide). There is still a big responsibility in terms of the tracking back but it did free me up a bit more and I felt I had a bit more time to run at their defence and cause problems.”

Tickets for Saturday’s clash with Brighton & Hove Albion are available to buy online and from the Box Office until 5pm on Friday – under-18s can travel with the Dons for just £9 while there is a family area available for away fans at the Amex Stadium.
