Samir Carruthers: My apology

16 March 2016

Following on from the Club’s statement concerning Samir Carruthers, MK Dons is continuing its investigation into the incident, reported in the media, which took place at the Cheltenham Festival in a private executive box hired out to a third party.

In the meantime, Samir Carruthers has issued a public apology and, having spoken to Sky Sports after a meeting with the chairman, executive director and the manager, he has requested that this personal statement be placed on the Club’s website.

“I want to apologise for my behaviour yesterday and say sorry to everyone involved. I acknowledge that I have let so many people down including the chairman, the manager, my fellow players, the supporters and my family. I have also let the community down and I have let Milton Keynes down.

“I would like to personally apologise to Cheltenham Racecourse, who were good enough to admit me to the Festival and I do accept that I have embarrassed everyone there.

“I do take full responsibility for my actions. It is not something to be laughed about. I am meant to be a role model and my behaviour is not an example I should be giving to children. My parents did not bring me up to behave like this and I am so embarrassed.

“I am really hurt by what I have done. It was a massive mistake and I have to take the criticism that is coming my way.

“The Club are obviously very disappointed and I have been told that I will be disciplined for my behaviour. I have to take their punishment because they had faith in me not to behave this way.

“This is a big lesson to me. I do not want to be known or remembered for this type of behaviour and I cannot stress enough how sorry I am.”
