Karl Robinson is remaining positive despite his side’s 4-2 defeat at Gillingham on the weekend.
The men from MK1 twice fought back from a goal down at Priestfield Stadium on Saturday afternoon, only to concede two goals in the final 15 minutes and fall to a second straight loss.
However, despite the defeat, the Dons remain just a point adrift of second-place and that is preventing Robinson from getting too downbeat.
“I feel better after this than I did after Bradford,” he told MK Dons Player. “I thought the players put an awful lot more effort in and I felt we deserved more than what we got out of the game.
“We’ve conceded too many goals, recently, soon after scoring and we can’t keep doing that. We’re gutted but we can’t sit around and mope, we’ve got to turn our attention to the next game very quickly.
“We’re third in the league, a point behind second so there is no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We’ll stay positive and keep moving on as there are still an awful lot of games still to play.”
The Dons were dealt a blow just 24 hours before Saturday’s kick-off when goalkeeper David Martin pulled him in training with a thigh injury and Robinson says the team will monitor his fitness ahead of the trip to Colchester United on Tuesday.
“Losing Dave (Martin) was a big loss to us. He was kicking the ball (on Friday) and he just strained his thigh. We were disappointed to lose him and we don’t know how long he’s going to be out for. We’ll assess the situation over the next 24-48 hours.”
One positive for Robinson and the Dons, however, was the return of Ben Reeves, who scored and impressed in his first appearance back from a hamstring injury.
“(Ben) was excellent when he came on,” Robinson added. “He made a difference to us and he looked sharp and bright. He’s been out a while but he showed everybody what we have missed. I was really pleased with him.”
