Report: Maidenhead United 1-4 Dons

8 December 2015

Rob Hall scored a hat-trick as the Dons cruised into the semi-finals of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup.

Tom Hitchcock got the men from MK1’s other goal in a game which also saw defender Joe Walsh play 80 minutes on his comeback from a long-term knee injury.

Between Hall’s second and third, Cody Cropper superbly saved a spot-kick from Dave Tarpey, who later atoned for his miss with a late consolation.

The hosts fired an early warning shot when Cropper was forced to push Sam Barratt’s 25-yard effort on to the crossbar.

However, the Dons soon assumed control of proceedings and went ahead in the sixth minute when Hall curled home a fantastic free-kick from 20 yards.

It was almost 2-0 a minute later but Daniel Powell was denied following some smart football on the edge of the Magpies’ box.

The men from MK1 continued to dominate – Lee Hodson and Hitchcock saw shots blocked before Sergio Aguza fired over the top as the game approached the midway point of the first half.

At the other end, Cropper made two good saves to deny Gavin James either side of another Aguza effort which narrowly missed the top right-hand corner.

Hitchcock doubled the Dons’ advantage on 50 minutes, pouncing on a loose ball and finding the bottom corner from close range.

Hall grabbed his second and the Dons’ third on 59 minutes after an excellent exchange with fellow goalscorer Hitchcock inside the hosts’ 18-yard box. A superb goal.

Cropper kept his clean sheet in tact with a fine save to deny Barratt on 70 minutes, but he went one better five minutes later when he superbly saved Tarpey’s penalty.

Arriving on to a Mark Randall lay-off, Hall wrapped up his hat-trick with a low drive into the bottom right-hand corner inside the final 10 minutes.

Tarpey atoned for his earlier penalty miss with a late strike for the hosts but, all in all, a thoroughly-professional display from the Dons, who set-up a semi-final tie with Chesham United.
