Report: Ipswich Town 2-2 Ladies

1 October 2014

MK Dons Ladies twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw away at Ipswich and maintain their unbeaten start to the League campaign.

The Dons side started slow and struggled to get a foothold in the game. The hosts looked to take full advantage of this in the opening minutes, but saw a handful of chances go wide of the goal.

As the game progressed, the Dons slowly got into their flow and played the type of football that has been seen throughout the season. Lauren Goodier saw an effort skim the post and Leah Cudone’s effort was well saved by the Ipswich Town keeper.

Ipswich, though, continued to threaten and they broke the deadlock on the 25th minute when good movement on the edge of the box freed an Ipswich striker and she fired her effort into the top corner of Emma Kirby's goal.

With the first half drawing to a close the Dons pressed for an equaliser and it came on the whistle courtesy of Leah Cudone, who drilled a shot went underneath the Ipswich keeper to level the terms going into the interval.

The Ladies started the second half brightly, taking control of the game and creating chances.

The Dons then thought they had taken the lead, however the goal was ruled out with the referee spotting an off the ball incident and awarded a free kick to Ipswich.

Then, in the 70th minute, Ipswich regained the lead after a lapse in concentration in the Dons defence left the Ipswich striker free in the box and she finished cooly to make it 2-1.

This didn’t stop the Dons momentum, though, and they almost pulled back straight away only for Cudone’s effort to be denied by the Ipswich keeper.

The Dons changed formation in hope of finding the equaliser and they were presented with one final opportunity to do so when Hannah Barrett was fouled as she drove forwards. Barrett stepped up to take the free-kick herself and guided the ball perfectly into the top corner to secure a point for the Dons.

MK Dons Ladies: Barrett, Bingham, Cudone, Doyle, Goodier, Hollingsworth, Kirby, McDonnell, Naylor, Smith.

Subs: Nixon, Turner, Caldwell, Corbett, Lancaster
