Report: Aylesbury FC 0-1 MK Dons

19 July 2014

A Danny Green spot-kick saw the Dons run out 1-0 winners in a pre-season friendly against Aylesbury FC on Saturday lunchtime.

New signing Will Grigg and the returning Ben Reeves went the closest to open the scoring in the first half, but it was Green’s penalty 10 minutes after the break which was the difference between the two sides at Haywood Way.

Grigg registered the first shot on goal on eight minutes, curling an effort just over the top after showing the defender a clean pair of heels.

At the other end, Bhaule couldn’t quite reach Wadkins’ clever cross as the hosts enjoyed a rare foray forward.

Reeves continued to impress on his first outing of pre-season and his fierce drive ended up just inches away from finding the top left-hand corner, before being replaced by Kabongo Tshimanga on the half-hour.

Grigg went ever closer a couple of minutes later, sending a stinging shot goal-wards which cannoned back off the crossbar.

Danny Green saw the first Dons chance of the second half smartly saved by the hosts’ keeper, but he wasn’t to be denied as he fired home from the spot shortly afterwards after Will Summerfield was pulled down in the area.

Bowditch then volleyed Green’s pinpoint corner not too far past the right-hand post as the Dons continue to make their extra quality count.

Second-year scholars Jacob Daffern, Gedeon Okito, Adam Hunt, Callum Britain, Laurence Vaughan replaced Lee Hodson, Jay McEveley, Harry Hickford, Bowditch and Green with 20 minutes remaining, but it was one already on the field, Tshimanga, who almost made with it two with a low drive which was well saved.

Summerfield almost sealed the success with a fine finish in the final minute but his rasping effort was tipped over the top.

MK Dons (4-2-3-1): Martin; Hodson (Daffern 70), Kay (Tingey 54), Hickford (Hunt 70), McEveley (Okito 70); Summerfield, Wiltshire; Green (Vaughan 70), Reeves (Tshimanga 30), Bowditch (Brittain 70); Grigg (Weston 58).

Goal: Green (55).
