Remembering football’s King

28 July 2015

MK Dons will dedicate its friendly with Getafe in memory of Andy King, who sadly passed away at the end of May.

Karl Robinson’s men host the La Liga outfit on Tuesday 28th July (k.o. 7.45pm) and will show their affection for the Chief Scout through a variety of ways.

The players will Don t-shirts with ‘King 7’ on the back during the warm-up, as well as when they make their way on to the field just before kick-off.

A minute’s applause will also take place while a montage to celebrate the 58-year-old’s life will be displayed on the big screens and some of Kingy’s favourite songs will be played.

Supporters will be able to make donations on the night with all of the money going towards purchasing kits for local youth football teams – Andy was a big advocate of developing young players.

Manager Karl Robinson said: “Kingy was a great man and he deserves a proper send-off. I’m sure the fans will take the opportunity to join us in remembering football’s King.

“There’s a number of ways in which will do so on the night and I hope as many of you will come down and help us honour a legend who we all loved. He lives on in our thoughts and through the many stories.”

Executive Director Andrew Cullen said: “It is only fitting that we dedicate this friendly in memory of Andy. It is our moment to pay both our respects and thanks to an individual who had an immense knowledge of the game.

“Andy's positive approach not just to his job but to life in general was an inspiration to everyone of us and we all miss him greatly.”

Fans can enjoy both the friendlies against Getafe and a Chelsea XI for just £2/£10/£15 - click here for full ticket details.
