QPR 2 Ladies 0

3 February 2014

MK Dons Ladies lost ground on the top two on Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers.

Matt French’s side went into the game just four points adrift of the Superhoops in third place in the South East Combination Women’s League table and a win would have seen them reduce that gap to just a point.

But it was the hosts who would make the stronger start on Sunday afternoon, although the Dons’ defense would prevent them from having any clear cut chances in opening exchanges.

This allowed French’s side to grow into the game and Charly Wright, who was causing QPR problems down the left wing, shot into the side netting before Lil Stanton (pictured) was denied by a good save from Rangers ‘keeper Jo Ayre after a brilliant solo run.

Those two misses then proved costly when, on the half hour, QPR broke the deadlock courtesy of debutant Leah Jones, who finished cooly past Dons goalie Clare Farron after latching onto a simple through-ball.

The second half proved to be a tight affair, with both teams cancelling each other out in terms of possession and chance, but with two minutes remaining QPR were able to deal a killer blow when Stacey Sowden, at the second time of asking, was able to slot past Farron.

The result leaves the Dons Ladies seven points adrift of the top two with six games left to play.

MK Dons Ladies: Farron, Turner, Cutting, Hollingsworth, Howes, Wright, Stanton (Mann), Barrett, Cudone (Kirby), Bingham, Washington (Smith).

Subs not used: E Brockwell.
