Powell 'privileged' to stay

3 July 2015

Daniel Powell, who had an option exercised in his contract this summer, has now signed a new deal to extend his stay at stadiummk.

The winger, who progressed through the Academy set-up, has penned a two-year contract which will see him remain with the Club until at least June 2017.

Powell, 24, played a key role in the Dons’ promotion-winning campaign of 2014/15, scoring 10 goals in 49 appearances, including important winners against Notts County and Rochdale.

“It’s been the perfect year for me,” Powell told MK Dons Player. “It’s been a project of the Club’s to get into the Championship and now hopefully I’ll be able to enjoy two more years of playing at that level, if not higher.

“I’ve been here since I was 14, so it’s been a while now. I’ve seen the Club grow and grow and to be a part of that is a great privilege.”

After joining the Academy at the age of 14 and graduating through the youth system, Powell made a scoring senior debut in November 2008 – the wideman netted the last of three Dons goals against Hartlepool United to cap off a memorable first appearance.

Powell then enjoyed loan spells at Crawley Town, Forest Green Rovers and Darlington before returning to stadiummk during the 2010/11 season and establishing himself in Robinson’s first-team.

In total, the Luton-born forward has made 217 appearances, while his 41 Dons goals have him ranked fourth on the Club’s list of top goalscorers – he is only two behind Sam Baldock.
