Murphy: Saturday will be emotional

6 May 2016

Saturday will be an emotional day for Josh Murphy, as he plays the final match of his season-long loan spell.

Murphy returns to parent club Norwich City after this weekend’s season finale against Nottingham Forest and the winger is eager to put on a show for the supporters and help the Dons end the campaign on a positive note.

“I’ve loved every minute of my time here,” the 21-year-old told MK Dons PlayerHD. “It’s disappointing we couldn’t top it off by staying in the division, which is the main thing at the end of the day but it’s been great playing with these boys.

“This is a Club that will hold a special place in my heart for a long time, so Saturday is going to be an emotional day.

“I just want to go out there, put a show on for the fans. We’d all like to repay the fans for the support and faith they’ve shown this season – if we can go out and put on a show for them then that will be perfect.”

He continued: “I felt like I’ve developed every game I’ve played here. I’m always learning and developing alongside the boys, who have helped. The management and coaches have always been there to support me as well. It’s been a big learning curve.”

“It’s brilliant that they’ve voted for me but without them I wouldn’t have won it. They provide me with the balls to let me go and do my thing. I can’t thank them enough.”

“I’m surprised because I know how much I get on their nerves in training, joking around and what not! They know it’s all in good spirits so I’m glad they’ve picked me and I’m glad they accepted me as soon as they did.

“It’s unbelievable. It’s one of the most prestigious awards to win at a Football Club as it’s voted for by the people that you play and train with week in, week out. I’m honoured to get it.

His good form was recognised on Tuesday evening when he was named Players’ Player of the Year at the Club’s award ceremony and the youngster says he was delighted to receive the accolade.
