David Martin is full of praise for teammate and fellow goalkeeper Charlie Burns, who has had the one-year option in his contract exercised by MK Dons.
Burns, who will now remain at stadiummk until at least June 2017, featured four times at the back end of last season, keeping a clean sheet on his first League start away at Sheffield Wednesday’s Hillsborough Stadium.
“I thought Charlie did really well in those games,” Martin told mkdons.com.
“It was great to see him keep a clean sheet in his first start against Sheffield Wednesday. That’s some place to make your first start, in front of 20,000 people and it’s a testament to Charlie as a person that he did so well.
“He just needed to do everything basic and solid, and he did that – he deserved his clean sheet.
“You need to have that big-game mentality as a goalkeeper, where you can go into a big match and have it excel you on, so it was important for Charlie to experience that.”

“It is tough for goalkeepers because if you don’t play then you don’t improve but how do you play if you’re not at a certain level? Fortunately for Charlie he’s still young but it’s important he learns from his match experiences and builds on it.”
“As a goalkeeper, you have to play. It’s a lot to do with confidence, going into a situation knowing you’ve done it before so you can do it again. The more times you do it, the more confidence you have and the more accomplished you become.
He continued: “He needs to learn from the experiences of those last four games. We’ve had a chat and he told me that he’s probably learnt more from those games than he has done last two years, which is probably right.
