Martin named Player of the Year

3 May 2016

David Martin has been named MK Dons’ Player of the Year for 2015/16.

Martin, who has racked up close to 300 appearances for the Dons, becomes the first goalkeeper to take home the award after an impressive campaign in the Sky Bet Championship.

In a difficult season, the 30-year-old has put in a number of memorable performances and kept 11 clean sheets. His standout displays against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City help to earn the team eight points.

"I'm stunned," Martin said. "I'm over the moon, obviously, but I really didn't expect it.

"I've enjoyed playing this season and going to the grounds and facing the challenges that we have."

He continued: "It's been a real team effort, though and I certainly wouldn't be getting this award if it wasn't for the back four."

Martin, who also took home the Individual Performance of the Year award for his display at Wolverhampton Wanderers, was honoured at the Club’s annual awards ceremony this evening.

Also recognised at the stadiummk event was Josh Murphy, who was voted Players’ Player of the Year by his teammates after a season in which he racked up seven goals in 45 appearances.

Captain Dean Lewington took home the Goal of the Season gong for his strike against Queens Park Rangers, while MKDSA Young Player of the Year went to George Baldock.

Other winners on the night included: Ben Tilney (Community Ambassador), Louise Naylor (Ladies Player of the Year), Greg Poulton (MKDSA Disability Player of the Year), Callum Brittain (Academy Player of the Year), Lucy Sullivan (Young Fan of the Year) and Carolyn Green (Fan of the Year).
