Long: Can't wait to get started

9 January 2014

MK Dons’ newest striker Chris Long is eager to make the most of his first loan spell away from parent club Everton.

Long, 18,  joined the Dons on a one-month loan on Tuesday afternoon and the England Under-20 international is expected to go straight into the matchday squad for this weekend’s Sky Bet League 1 clash with Shrewsbury Town.

If selected by manager Karl Robinson on Saturday, Long will make his first senior appearance and speaking to mkdons.com, the Toffees trainee admits he’s itching to get going.

He said: “I can’t wait to get started, I just want to impress everyone I can. Obviously I want to break into Everton’s first team as soon as possible but while I’m here at MK Dons I just want to impress the Gaffer and the fans and do well for the Club.

“The last few years have been really good to me and I really kicked on last year when I  broke into the Everton reserve team. From there I got called up to the England Under-20s squad, which came as a bit of a shock, and I gained a lot from that so hopefully I can continue to kick on now I’m here.

“I’ve never met any of the players here before but hopefully I’ll get to know them as soon as possible. It helps that there are younger players here with me because they’re the same age as me but I’ll be looking to learn from all the lads.”
