Ladies 3 Luton 1

30 November 2013

MK Dons Ladies beat local rivals Luton Town 3-1 in a midweek fixture to go third in the South East Women’s Combination League.

The Dons Ladies knew they were in for a tough fixture with more than pride at stake but they started brightly and enjoyed a large share of possession in the opening 20 minutes only to lack the cutting edge needed to take advantage of their positive start.

However, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock when they were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the area; Luton took full advantage of this as the ball slipped through goalkeeper Claire Farrons hands to make it 1-0 to Luton.

Luton looked lively on the attack and created a few chances but, against the run of play, the Dons Ladies made the most of a mistake in the Luton defence with Charly Wright finding the equaliser from 12-yards out.

After the break the Dons Ladies started the second half as they had the first with plenty of possession and continued to press for a second goal. Their hard work eventually paid off when Emily Mann’s fine lob beat the Luton goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

The Dons Ladies were firmly in the driving seat and made sure of the result late on when Claire Hollingsworth was on hand to poke home a corner from six-yards out to confirm a 3-1 victory.
