Kay commits to the Dons

30 May 2014

Defender Antony Kay has signed a new one-year deal at stadiummk, MK Dons are pleased to announce.

Kay’s contract was due to run out this summer but he will now remain with the Dons until June 2015.
The experienced centre-back was a stand-out performer at the heart of Karl Robinson’s defence last season, making 34 appearances and helping the side keep eight clean-sheets.

Kay also contributed two goals, including a late winner against Sheffield United back in August.

He told mkdons.com: “I’m delighted. Towards the end of last season, a new contract was mentioned and I knew then, definitely, that I wanted to stop here.

“It’s a great club and it’s only going to go forward. The stadium and the fans are great, I like the way the manager wants to play and the lads here are brilliant too. I’ve just really enjoyed the last two years and I just wanted to continue that on.

“If I wasn’t enjoying my time in Milton Keynes, I wouldn’t have stopped here. It only takes me an hour and 20 minutes on the train with Pottsy and I enjoy that. If I thought the travelling was a burden or it would affect my performance then I wouldn’t have signed but I’m happy to do so and I just can’t wait to get started again.”

Speaking to mkdons.com, Robinson said: “I’m made up that he’s staying. He bounced back from the red cards at the start of the 2012/13 season by performing very impressively last year, which tells you a lot about him.

“Losing him to injury last season was a big loss, but he worked hard to get back fit and ended the campaign as one of most important players.

“He has a strong desire to play for the club and I look forward to working with him for at another 12 months.”
After moving to

as a free agent in the summer of 2012, Kay quickly established himself as a first-choice centre-back in Robinson’s side. Kay has made a total of 76 appearances for the Dons during his two seasons in Milton Keynes and the Barnsley-born defender hopes to add more to that total next season as he looks to help the Club improve on their tenth-place finish in 2013/14.
