Karl: We competed with Ipswich

3 May 2016

Karl Robinson was pleased to see his side compete with Ipswich Town on Saturday and believes they’ll take valuable lessons from the clash into next season.

The Dons twice fought back from a goal down at Portman Road, only for the Tractor Boys to win the game late on through Luke Varney’s header. Alex Revell grabbed both the goals for the men from MK1.

“We haven’t played bad here against a top-10 Championship team,” Robinson told MK Dons PlayerHD. “You can see the quality of their goalscorers, but for us to be able to compete with them shows the desire that we have.

“There have been a number of areas this season where we haven’t been good enough. It’s about us using this as a lesson and developing in the right way moving forward. As well as us learning on the touchline, the players will learn on the pitch.”

“The difference at this level is in the final details. All those small components mean so much. It’s been such a massive learning curve.

“Promoting youth is something we’ve always driven and we’ve got to continue doing so. It’s exciting times – there are some very talented young players at this Club.”

One real positive for Robinson to take from Saturday’s match is Connor Furlong’s debut at the age of 18 – the young midfielder replaced Alex Revell in the 88th minute after coming off a bench which included his Academy team-mates Oran Jackson and David Kasumu.
