Karl Robinson described Saturday's 6-0 thrashing of Colchester United as the ‘perfect’ afternoon.
The Dons scored three goals in each half to cruise past the U’s at stadiummk, a result which sees them maintain the pressure on the top three in Sky Bet League 1.
“It was (the perfect afternoon),” Robinson told MK Dons Player. “I know Benik (Afobe) will get all the credit but I was pleased with the performances of all the players.
“I thought Powelly (Daniel Powell) set his stall out within the first 30 seconds when he got the ball and ran at the full-back, putting them on the back foot early. Reevesy (Ben Reeves) was sensational again and I thought Darren Potter was brilliant, he marshalled that game.
“The back four got another clean sheet too. We’ve now kept 10 clean sheets which is two behind the total from last season, and that’s another target we want to reach before the turn of the year – that would be a great achievement.
“The whole team deserves to take a bow. It’s a day we’ll remember but we should try and build upon it – use it as a motivation to push ourselves to bigger and better things.”
The win came largely thanks to Afobe’s first professional hat-trick, which took the Arsenal loanee to 18 goals for the season – the only Dons player to ever reach that total before December.
“Benik’s gone past Patrick’s 17 goals by the 5th January, before the start of December and hopefully he can continue to move forward from here.”
Robinson continued: “Normally when you see six goals there are one or two scrappy ones in there. (Dele Alli’s goal) reminded me of Steven Gerrard’s against West Ham United in the FA Cup final, where he came inside and struck across the ball into the far bottom corner. It’s a great distance out and it’s really picked up some speed off the floor.
“We did the same against Barnsley when we scored five and here against Crewe when we scored six. Just in them three games alone we’ve scored 17 goals. We’ve gone over 50 goals before December and Benik and Griggy (Will Grigg) have got 25 between them.”
Saturday’s victory meant the Dons finished their three-game home stretch with seven points out of a possible nine – a total which Dons boss Robinson says he is pleased with.
“I’m over the moon with the three performances. To score nine goals in three games and concede just two, one being a deflection and one being an own goal – it can’t be a bad week.
“We can move forward now and hopefully continue to get better.”
As well as being extremely complimentary of his players, Robinson was also keen to pay tribute to the Dons supporters who, once again, played their part in the success by providing a terrific atmosphere.
“I think fans deserve the credit as well. The way they conducted themselves on Tuesday was sensational and from the word go (on Saturday), the noise was brilliant.
“The players are enjoying playing in front of you and if you continue to enjoy watching us and keep singing your hearts out, hopefully we won’t disappoint you at the end of the year.”
