Karl Robinson took full responsibility for his side’s 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City on Saturday.
“The fans have to look at me and not the players for this one,” an honest Robinson told MK Dons PlayerHD. “I felt I got it wrong with the substitutions - not the personnel that came on, just sometimes you can make substitutions too early or too late and today they didn’t have an effect on the game.
“I thought the first half was the best 45 minutes we’ve played all season, without shooting. We got into some amazing areas, similar areas to where Stephen Gleeson was when he scored his goal, but we turned those opportunities down.
“Once they scored their first goal, I felt we lost the plot a little bit for 15 minutes and looked really ragged and disconnected.
“We feel a little aggrieved – Kyle’s booking was questionable and the foul on Sam Gallagher, which was worse, wasn’t given as a penalty.
“It’s always difficult to take when you lose. The players have given everything they possible could, as they always do and it’s my fault today.”
Saturday’s game brought an end to the men from MK1’s first ever month in the Sky Bet Championship, with the side having seven points to their name from five games – a good return according to the manager.
“If we’d have won we’d have ended the month with 10 points which would have been an amazing start but we’ve got seven which is still a very good start for a us in a new campaign, in a new league.
“I’m looking forward to a break. It’s been busy and a bit of a shock to the system but now I know I can manage at this level and I also know my players can play at this level. I know we can cope and that’s a real positive going into the rest of the season.”
He continued: “We’ve got some tough games to come and they’re going to come thick and fast so we’ve got to make sure we’re ready for them.”
