Karl: Spirit shone through

13 January 2015

Karl Robinson was delighted with the character his side showed to come back from two goals down at Crawley Town and earn a draw.

A brace from former Don Izale McLeod had the men from MK1 staring at the prospect of a third straight defeat on Saturday but goals from Will Grigg and Dele Alli, the latter deep into stoppage time, saw Robinson’s men secure the valuable point – one which moves them up to third in the Sky Bet League 1 table.

“We can come away from here with our heads held very high,” the Dons boss said after the match. “To move up to third by scoring late on in a game where a number of things went against us – these are the moments that I’ll never forget.

“(Crawley) battled for their new manager. Dean Saunders has come in and tried to turn their spirits around so we knew it was going to be a difficult afternoon but I thought my players were magnificent.

“Will Grigg’s work ethic was sensational, same with Dele (Alli) and Darren Potter. The substitutions we made were different, we used wingers as full-backs and I enjoyed that tactical change.

He continued: “When things aren’t going your way, it’s important you dig deep. We’ve turned the tide after losing two on the bounce and we’ve now got a point in the right direction.”

*Robinson also confirmed after the match that on-loan striker Benik Afobe is in talks with a Championship club with regards to a potential permanent move from his parent club Arsenal.
