Karl: Solid opening run-out

15 July 2014

Manager Karl Robinson was pleased with his side’s start to their 2014/15 pre-season schedule.

A brace from Dele Alli along with goals from Tom Hitchcock, Giorgio Rasulo and second-year scholars Kabongo Tshimanga and Kyran Wiltshire helped the Dons run-out comfortable 6-0 winners against St. James’s Gate on Monday night, in the team’s first friendly of the summer.

As well as clinical in front of goal, Robinson’s men looked sharp throughout the contest and the Dons boss was understandably delighted with his players’ performance.

He told MK Dons Player: “I’m obviously pleased. We looked a lot sharper than we did in this game last year and I thought the way the players conducted themselves was great. It was a good run-out for us.

“There was an awful lot of quality all over the pitch. We’ve got decent strength in depth this year with the younger players being that little bit older - five goalscorers and four were from our Academy.

“It was also nice to see Pottsy out there for the first time since February as well as Bowds and Lee Hodson. The ones we missed for large parts of last season, it was nice to see them put their boots back on.

He continued: “There were an awful lot of positives to take but I’m not getting carried away. This is the first step along the long road to where we want to be. There is a lot of hard work still to be done but they can all go to sleep knowing they’ve done a good job.”

Monday’s clash was the Dons’ fourth with the Leinster Senior League outfit, who once again provided the ideal hospitality for Robinson and his team.

Robinson added: “We can’t ask anymore of the people at St. James’s Gate, they always put on a wonderful pitch and the hospitality is always perfect.

“It was nice, also, to see our fan base over here in Dublin is growing – every year we seem to get more and more. We come here consistently now and people do talk about us.”
