Karl full of praise for players

22 April 2014

MK Dons boss Karl Robinson heaped praise on his players after their dramatic comeback at home to Brentford on Easter Monday.

Strikes from James Tarkowski and Clayton Donaldson had the Dons staring down the barrel of a sixth straight home defeat yesterday afternoon but two goals in the final 10 minutes by Stephen Gleeson and, later, McLeod ensured the Dons would come away with a share of the spoils.

Monday's draw came just two days after the disappointing defeat to Port vale and it was the response from that performance at Vale Park which pleased Dons boss Robinson the most.

Speaking to MK Dons Player, the 33-year-old said: “I thought the players’ effort was fantastic. They’ve gone two-nil down against the second best team in this league having not scored a goal since February and fought back to 2-2. That is a tremendous testament to them.

“It wasn’t us at our best but it was us back working hard. The game was a learning curve for me to see these young players under intense pressure, four of the back five were home-grown. The senior players, too, stepped up to the plate.

“The fans as well, they stuck with the players, they sang their hearts out and gave us the hope and belief to get back into the game.”

Although the result means little in terms of league success, it does fill Robinson and the Dons with a little more optimism heading into what could be a big off-season.

And the Liverpudlian manager believes the Club can learn a lot from the Bees, who have already secured their promotion to the Sky Bet Championship.

“We’ve got to learn from the way Brentford have done things. They’ve built a squad which is difficult to play against and they’ve got a lot of quality sat on the bench as well. If we want to be successful then we have to emulate that and go out and get a big squad which can compete.

“Hopefully we can build over the next few months and into next year and develop the strengths. I see a lot of positivity moving forward.”
