Karl: Efforts rewarded at Rochdale

27 April 2015

Karl Robinson felt Saturday’s hard-fought win at Rochdale was a reward for the effort and determination his players have put in throughout the season.

Despite not being at their fluent best, the Dons edged Dale by the odd goal in five at Spotland – a result which takes the race for automatic promotion to the Sky Bet Championship to the final day.

“I felt it was a victory we didn’t really deserve,” an honest Robinson told MK Dons Player. “We weren’t at our best and it was a tense game, but we came through with the three points.

“David Martin’s save and Antony Kay’s header were two of the best bits of defending I’ve ever seen. They are things you need if you want to be successful – you need to have that balance from top to bottom and we had that in abundance.

“We worked our socks off against a team who are very difficult to play against and maybe this was payback for all the effort and determination the players have put in over the season.”

He continued: “We’ve had some really difficult games of late, so to win four on the spin is a tremendous testament to the players.”

Saturday’s triumph took the team’s points tally for the season to 88, which is the Club’s highest-ever total in the third tier of English football, surpassing the previous record of 87, set in the 2008/09 campaign.

They do, though, remain one point behind second-placed Preston North End but Robinson insists his players will continue to give their all, in the hope they can achieve an automatic berth in the Championship next season.

“Forty five games gone and we’ve got 88 points, which I think is just incredible. It’s amazing to think we’re done on the road in the league but we’ve still got one more to go and we’re not going away.

“We’re on the edge of something very unique and the players need to keep pounding on and doing the right things – I’m sure they will.”

Robinson's side take on Yeovil Town in their final game of the 2014/15 regular season this Sunday lunchtime at stadiummk - tickets are priced from £20 adults, £15 seniors and £6 under-18s.
