Karl Robinson described his side’s performance in the 7-0 victory over Oldham Athletic as the best so far in his managerial career.
The Dons moved into the automatic promotion places with their club-record win over the Latics at stadiummk and closed the gap on leaders Bristol City to just one point, while still holding a game in hand.
The men from MK1, who took their league goal to 47, also extended their unbeaten run in the division to 11 – a stretch which is bettered by only AFC Bournemouth in the country.
“The players were brilliant and they deserve to take a bow because that’s as good as it gets,” Robinson told MK Dons Player afterwards. “That’s the best performance (in my time as manager) because it was against a good team.
“We scored seven goals and were very convincing. I think it was after the sixth goal, they kicked off and we won the ball back immediately and almost scored straight away. That’s a sign of a team that wants to go for things and put their foot down.
“When we were four-nil up, we were still able to bring on the likes of Danny Green, George Baldock and Benik Afobe – but we have that and you have to have that if you want to be successful.
He continued: “There is still a lot of hard work to do and there are still elements that our game that we know we can improve. We want to build on this in January because it’s still not enough. I still want more because I want to make sure we achieve things.
“We’re only three goals off 50 in the league alone, which is a tremendous return and to already equal the clean sheet total from last season this early is a tremendous testament to the group.”
Six different players found themselves on the scoresheet in the victory, with Will Grigg the only player to net a brace. Two of those were the Dons’ central midfielders Dele Alli and Darren Potter, the former taking his total for the season into double figures and the latter finding the back of the net for the first time in 2014/15.
“My favourite (goal) was Pottsy’s one, that was a wonderful goal. For Pottsy and Dele to get onto the scoresheet in the same game was a bit of rarity.
“Also, for (Alli), at the age of 18, to get to double figures before Christmas is remarkable - any midfielder would take 10 goals in a season!
“Everybody in the team today, from the ones who started to the subs who didn’t come on, deserve to take a bow because they were magnificent.”
