January transfer window recap

3 February 2016

The Dons were active during the January transfer window, with a number of players coming and going from stadiummk.

mkdons.com recaps all the transfer activity, including a double Deadline Day swoop for a pair of Championship strikers.

Jake Forster-Caskey
The England Under-21 international midfielder was Karl Robinson’s first signing of the window.

He re-joined on loan until the end of the season from Brighton & Hove Albion, after an impressive stint at stadiummk earlier in the campaign.

Jonny Williams
Robinson secured the services of Crystal Palace’s attacking midfielder Jonny Williams prior to the trip to Bolton Wanderers almost a fortnight ago.

The Wales international has signed until the 23rd April and brings with him a wealth of experience having featured close to 100 times for the likes of Palace, Ipswich Town and Nottingham Forest.

George Baldock
Baldock was recalled to stadiummk after impressing while on loan at Oxford United.

The 22-year-old was meant to remain at the Kassam Stadium for the entire season but his performances warranted a return to the Dons, where he will compete for the right-back spot along with Jordan Spence.

Alex Revell
One of two Deadline Day signings made by Robinson, Revell joined on a free transfer from Cardiff City and penned a contract until the end of the 2015/16 campaign.

The 32-year-old striker has scored 90 career goals, including a stunning 40-yard volley in a play-off final at Wembley Stadium – he also scored for the Bluebirds at stadiummk earlier this season.

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas
Emmanuel-Thomas was Robinson’s other Deadline Day capture, signing on loan from Queens Park Rangers for the remainder of the season.

The tall, powerful striker has found the net five times already in 2015/16 and, like Revell, scored against the men from MK1 in their visit to Loftus Road in September.

Diego Poyet
Poyet returned to parent club West Ham United at the start of the month and, soon after, joined Charlton Athletic on a deal until the end of the season.

The midfielder made 20 appearances for the Dons but found his playing time limited following Darren Potter’s return from injury.

Cristian Benavante
The day after Poyet’s departure, Benavente left stadiummk after both he and the Dons agreed to mutually end his contract.

The Peruvian international featured just five times after joining from Real Madrid Castilla in July. He has since signed for Belgian club Charleroi.

Sam Gallagher
Gallagher was the third player in three days to leave the Dons, returning to parent club Southampton.

The striker started the opening day victory over Rotherham United but made just six starts thereafter, falling out of favour behind Nicky Maynard.

Mark Randall
Midfielder Randall departed on 14th January to join League 2 outfit Barnet, ending an association with the Club which stretched back to 2010.

Randall, who spent time on loan with the Dons during his days with Arsenal, re-joined the men from MK1 in March 2014 but made just 17 appearances.

Harry Hickford
Defender Hickford signed for Dagenham & Redbridge on a month-long youth loan.

The youngster will remain with the Daggers until mid-February, in what is his third loan spell of the season having enjoyed stints at Chelmsford City and Torquay United.

Charlie Burns
Burns followed in his fellow Academy graduate’s footsteps, heading out on loan in search of valuable first-team experience.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper joined Vanarama National League South side Hayes & Yeading until 14th February – the third time he’s been out on loan in his young career.

Sergio Aguza
Aguza left the Dons by mutual consent ahead of the Championship clash with Reading at stadiummk.

The Spanish midfielder moved to Milton Keynes from Real Madrid Castilla in the summer but was limited to just three Capital One Cup appearances.

Simon Church
Church completed a Deadline Day switch to Scottish Premiership outfit Aberdeen.

Making just 13 starts after joining the Club on a free transfer in July, the Wales international is after game-time ahead of this summer’s European Championship.

Lee Hodson
Similarly to Church, Hodson is keen to play regular football as he looks to make the Northern Ireland Euro 2016 squad.

The right-back has also headed to Scotland for the remainder of the campaign and linked up with Kilmarnock, whose assistant manager is Peter Leven.

Dale Jennings
Dale was the third player to leave on Deadline Day but the only one to do so permanently.

The winger, who impressed during a loan spell in 2013/14, featured just twice after arriving on a free transfer in the summer.
