Injury update

4 October 2013

mkdons.com caught up with Head of Sports Medicine Simon Crampton to get the latest injury news on Dele Alli and Dean Bowditch.

Alli, 17, limped off in the 80th minute of last week’s 4-1 win over Stevenage and is now set for a spell in the treatment room.

Crampton said: “Dele was injured after a tackle in the win over Stevenage last weekend. Unfortunately he has suffered a rupture to one of his ligaments in his ankle this means he will now need to undergo a period of treatment and rehabilitation and is likely to be sideline for up to 8-10 weeks.”

As a result of the injury Alli will miss out on England Under-18s forthcoming friendly against Hungary.

Elsewhere, Bowditch underwent groin surgery in the summer; however, a setback has left Bowditch on the sidelines for longer than first expected.

Crampton explained to mkdons.com:“Dean had trained fully for three weeks and was looking to be on the road to recovery but suffered an exacerbation of the injury which had kept him sidelined so far this season. He has bone marrow oedema within his pelvis; essentially to laymen this is bone bruising which can cause a significant amount of pain.

“This condition is notoriously difficult to manage and is very unpredictable. Rest assured we have had opinions from world renowned specialists and have formulated a management plan to facilitate his return. Due to the unpredictability of the condition we are unable to put a timescale on his return; we will monitor his progression on a daily basis and tailor the treatment and rehabilitation accordingly.

“The fact that we have seen Dean back in training this season means a lot of the hard work has already been done and despite this setback Dean has been a model professional and has shown real determination to put this injury behind him.”
