Hickford makes comeback for City

22 September 2014

Harry Hickford returned from injury for Cambridge City on Saturday but couldn’t prevent the Lilywhites from tasting defeat.

Hickford had missed City’s last two games with a knock but played the full 90 minutes in the fixture with Frome Town on Saturday. Goalkeeper Charlie Burns, also on loan at Bridge Road, was an unused substitute.

The Lilywhites dominated early-on but fell behind just before half-time courtesy of an Aaron Rodriguez goal. The home side then doubled their advantage from the penalty spot in the 84th minute and, despite an instant leveller from Michael King, City weren’t able to come back and, as a result, suffered back-to-back defeats.

Next up for Hickford and Burns’ is a trip to Banbury United next Tuesday evening, in what will be the penultimate game of their loan spell.

Elsewhere, winger Will Summerfield featured for Bedford Town in the final eight minutes of their game at Aylesbury United.

Summerfield, who made the loan switch to The Eyrie two weeks ago, came off the bench in the 82nd minute in place of Tom Liversedge but wasn’t able to inspire the Eagles to overcome a 3-2 deficit.

Craig Adams’ men twice fought back from a goal down in the Southern League Division One Central clash, but were finally beaten by Shaun Owens’ winner 22 minutes from time.

Summerfield and Bedford will be hoping to turn things around when they host Egham Town on Saturday.
