Hickford joins Clarets on loan

27 March 2014

Young defender Harry Hickford has joined Skrill Conference South side Chelmsford City on loan until the end of the season.

The 17-year-old completed the move to Essex earlier today and will link up with the Clarets ahead of their home fixture against Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday afternoon.

He will remain with the Melbourne Stadium outfit until the end of their League campaign which concludes on Saturday 26th April.

Hickford was one of four players handed a professional deal by Karl Robinson ahead of the 2014/15 campaign and the Dons boss told mkdons.com that he’s looking forward to seeing how the second-year scholar progresses in his first taste of senior football.

Robinson said: “We’ve given Harry a professional deal but I feel he needs to play more games, especially at senior level, before he is ready to break into the first-team.

“This upcoming pre-season will be an important one for Harry and this move provides an opportunity for him to test himself against men and take the next step in his development as a footballer.

“I wish him luck between now and the end of April and I look forward to seeing how gets on.”

The Dons’ current Head Apprentice, Hickford has featured on the bench for the first-team on two occasions but has yet to make a senior appearance.
