Grigg glad to bounce back

6 October 2014

Will Grigg took his tally for the season to six this past weekend after scoring the opening goal in the Dons’ 2-0 victory over 10-man Yeovil Town at Huish Park.

The on-loan Brentford man latched onto Mark Randall’s through-ball in the 69th minute of Saturday’s clash to slot past keeper Jake Kean and give the Dons the lead - one which they doubled late on through Daniel Powell.

“It’s always nice to score,” Grigg told MK Dons Player after the game. “Red cards always have an effect on a game but personally I felt it was only a matter of time before the goal came. We were getting in some good areas and it was nice for that ball from Randers to finally get through and I managed to stick it away.

“For me and Benny (Benik Afobe), it’s important for us to score as many goals as possible but three points is the main thing. It was an important win because when you lose a game you want to rectify that straight away.”

He continued: “The first half was difficult, we tried to get the ball down and play but they were pressing all over and they made it tough for us. The wind made it difficult too.

“We couldn’t quite get into that top gear in the first half but in the second we really showed the quality that we’ve got and it was nice to get the two goals. The first goal came at a good time and from there we’ve completely dominated the game.”

Saturday’s win was the Dons’ sixth in the league this season, and it saw them close the gap on second place in Sky Bet League 1 to just two points. Grigg, though, knows it’s important the team continue to build on their promising start to the 2014/15 campaign.

“We’ve started well despite having some tough games. We’ve played some really good football and we’ve just got to keep that going and maintain this momentum.”

Karl Robinson's side are in action on Tuesday when they host AFC Wimbledon in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern Section.

Tickets for the clash are available to buy right up until kick-off, priced from £12 for adults, £10 for seniors and £1 for under-18s.
