Dons winners at Women Leaders MK Awards

25 November 2015

A trio of women from stadiummk were recognised for their professional achievements at the inaugural Women Leaders MK Awards on Friday night.

MK Dons’ directors Sue Dawson and Berni Winkelman were amongst the 14 award winners while MK Dons Sport and Education Trust’s Director of Education Angela Novell was a finalist for Community Impact - professional.

Operations Director Sue, who has been with the Dons since its formation in 2004, picked up the gong for Customer Service while Berni, aid to husband and Dons chairman Pete Winkelman, walked away with the Outstanding Support award.

After the awards Sue said: “It’s a great honour to have picked up the award for the Customer Services industries, which I am proud to receive on behalf of the amazing team at stadiummk.

“Whilst we are usually focused on football, this year was particularly special as we joined with other local stakeholders to put on a world-class show hosting three games for Rugby World Cup 2015 and firmly establishing Milton Keynes on the international sporting stage.”

Berni said: “It was a great surprise to receive an award and I am absolutely thrilled. I believe in what we are trying to do achieve at MK Dons, stadiummk and beyond, and I am so delighted that my colleagues have been recognised as well.”

Angela added: “I am very proud to have been part of an amazing evening and to have been nominated alongside so many fantastic women who are making a real difference in their business and in our community.”

In total 116 women were nominated, 50 were shortlisted by the judges to identify the final 14 award winners, which were handed out a spectacular ceremony in the ballroom at the DoubleTree by Hilton Milton Keynes, and as part of the shortlisting process each nominee took part in a judging day at the start of September.

The Women Leaders MK Awards recognised women living or working within the Milton Keynes postcode area who have contributed to the growth of their own particular sector and the ongoing success of the city.
MK Dons Sport and Education Trust was a proud partner of the event and approximately £14,000 was raised for the charity.
