Dons trigger Burns’ option

24 May 2016

MK Dons have taken up the one-year option in the contract of Charlie Burns.

Burns’ deal was set to expire at the end of June but the Club has decided to exercise their option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

The move keeps the Academy product at stadiummk until at least June 2017.

He told mkdons.com: “I’m delighted and proud to get another year with the Dons.

“When I was in the Academy, I would watch the first-team week in, week out and it was my dream to be out there playing as well – I’m pleased that I get to stay a part of the squad for another season.”

He continued: “I know I’m going to have to remain patient and wait for my opportunity to impress. I’m still young and I’m still developing, so I’ll be looking to continue learning each and every day in training and in matches.”

The 21-year-old goalkeeper, who turned professional in May 2014, made his debut as a substitute against Leyton Orient on the last day of the 2013/14 season.

After enjoying loan spells at Cambridge City and Truro City, Burns made his full senior debut for the Dons last season away at play-off finalists Sheffield Wednesday, where he put in a stunning performance en route to keeping a clean sheet.

In total, he featured four times during the 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship campaign and he’ll be hoping to further his development with the Dons over the next 12 months.
