Dons involved in Easter loan action

29 March 2016

Although the Dons weren’t in action this Easter, a number of loanees were involved for their respective sides.

Giorgio Rasulo played every minute for Aldershot Town over the weekend, helping the Shots to four points from two games.

Rasulo and co held second-placed Forest Green Rovers to a goalless draw at The New Lawn on Good Friday before beating play-off hopefuls Braintree Town 2-1 on Easter Monday.

The two positive results have increased Aldershot’s gap over the relegation places to 11 points with six games remaining. They face Barrow at home this Saturday.

Elsewhere, Tom Hitchcock started Crewe Alexandra’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Sheffield United on Good Friday.

The Railwaymen looked to have secured a valuable point at Bramall Lane after coming from two goals to level things at 2-2 in the 82nd minute, however Billy Sharp struck in stoppage to secure the win for Sheff Utd.

Hitchcock played 67 minutes in Friday’s match before being replaced by Laurie Dalla Valle. He was an unused substitute in their 1-0 loss to Bradford City on Easter Monday, a defeat which leaves Crewe 11 points adrift of safety in Sky Bet League 1.

Ben Tilney made his debut for Brackley Town in their Good Friday triumph over Boston United.

The defender, who joined the Saints on loan late last week, went straight into the starting XI for the National League North clash in Lincolnshire and helped his new side pick up a valuable three points in their fight for survival.

David Moyo put Brackley ahead on the half-hour mark before Richard Batchelor doubled the advantage in stoppage time. Boston grabbed a consolation in the 95th minute but it wasn’t enough to prevent the Northamptonshire club moving out of the relegation zone.

The Saints, who had their home match against AFC Telford United postponed on Easter Monday, host third-placed AFC Flyde at St. James’s Park this weekend.

In the National League South, Harry Hickford came off the bench for Hemel Hempstead Town but couldn’t prevent them suffering a 2-1 defeat at title-cashing Maidstone United.

The Tudors took the lead in the seventh minute through Ricky Wellard but goals from Callum Davies and Vas Karagiannis turned things around in favour of the hosts before half-time.

The defeat keeps Hemel, whose Easter Monday clash with St. Albans City was postponed, four points adrift of the play-off places heading into the final seven games of the campaign. They entertain Gosport Borough at Vauxhall Road this Saturday.

Also in action over Easter were two of the Dons’ scholars out on work experience.

Joe Steele, who joined Arlesey Town at the beginning of March, started the Blues’ Evo-Stik League Southern Division One clash away at Hanwell Town on Saturday afternoon and helped them to a convincing 3-0 success.

Meanwhile, Tom Wyant and Biggleswade United survived a late comeback to beat Stofold 3-2 last weekend and stay within eight points of the top four in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.
