Dons hold on to Hodson

29 May 2015

Right-back Lee Hodson has committed his future to the Dons.

The 23-year-old’s contract was set to expire at the end of June but he will now remain at stadiummk until at least 2017 after putting pen-to-paper on a new two-year deal.

Speaking to mkdons.com, Hodson said: “There were a number of reasons why I wanted to stay – there's a good bunch of lads here, the manager is great and the fans have always been good to me.

“It’s a chance to play Championship football again. I’m sure every player at the club wanted to take that next step up to this level and I’m no different - I’m really looking forward to next season.

He continued: “Last year wasn’t great because of the injuries but now, with this new deal, I can work to get back as fit as possible and give it a right go.”

Since joining from Watford in summer 2013, the Northern Ireland international has made 43 appearances while also contributing to 17 clean-sheets and scoring two goals, including a stunning strike against Colchester United last November.

Hodson also has experience of playing in the Sky Bet Championship, having featured 83 times in the second tier for his former club, the Hornets, between 2008 and 2012.

Dons boss Robinson said: “Lee had a difficult time last season with injuries but he proved when he was available what a quality player he is. He played over 80 games in the Championship during his time with Watford so he knows what it takes to compete at that level.”
