Dele grateful but remaining grounded

19 September 2014

Dele Alli insists nothing will change despite being rewarded for his excellent start to the season with an improved and extended contract.

The Dons chose to recognise their gifted youngster after a superb first 12 months as a professional by offering him a fresh deal which reflects his key role in the first-team squad.

Alli, though, is keeping his feet on the ground and although appreciative of his improved contract, says he remains fully focused on helping the team maintain their current good form.

He told MK Dons Player: “I’m over the moon and I’m very grateful to the gaffer and the chairman for rewarding me for the work I’ve been doing.

“But, nothing’s going to change. I’m still going to keep giving 100 percent. Hopefully I can keep getting in the team and keep playing.

He continued: “The season has started really well. We’ve got a good squad this season and because most of them are young, I’m really enjoying playing with each player. Hopefully we can continue our good start.”

Alli’s boss, Karl Robinson, has named the England Under-19 international in his starting XI for every one of the Dons’ first nine games of the season, and the Dons manager was keen to pay tribute to his midfield starlet.

He told MK Dons Player: “I think it is fantastic news for the Football Club because he’s an exceptional talent. Dele has been training with us since he was 15 and although he is still a kid and he’s still got an awful lot of learning still to do - for him to be where he is now is scary.

“He’s a role model for every young child in Milton Keynes that wants to play football. I couldn’t be prouder of his development and what he’s done. This contract is a reward for him because he’s been magnificent this season.”

As Alli’s terrific form continues, speculation linking him with some of the world’s biggest clubs will continue and Robinson admits there will be a time when the Club will have to part ways with their Academy graduate.

“I never see Dele seeing out a contract with us, if I’m being totally honest, because he is such gifted young player and he will need to be challenged at the highest level at some stage.

“He knows where he’s going, we all do and we’ve never hidden that from the fans. It’s just important we enjoy his services while he’s here.”

However, despite having the spotlight beaming down on him, Alli’s attention remains on playing for the Dons and, more specifically, this weekend’s game against Crewe Alexandra. “All we want is a win!”

Season ticket holders can bring two friends to Saturday’s game against Crewe for just £20 or four friends for £40 and, in doing so, will receive a free upgrade to clubRed for another game of their choice.
